Onny Meadows Group
Our hedge has now been laid, thanks to the Onny Meadows Group volunteer team.
Hedge laying is an ancient craft an excellent way of ensuring hedges remain stockproof. Laying hedges in a 15-20 year cycle prevents them from turning into a line of trees and also ensures the hedge keeps a dense base which can provide a winter home for in-sects and small mammals.
This hedge will now just require a trim every one or two years to help it maintain its shape and should provide a good nesting site for birds such as dunnock, blackbird, song thrush, wren and robin.
