Thinking Like Darwin

Discover through hands-on activities and investigation how Darwin observed that different animals have adapted to their environment and how this can lead to evolution. Discovery what fossils can reveal about the ancient landscape and why it changes, learn how fossils are made and make your own fossil.

Variation is Everywhere: Darwin’s Investigations

An Outreach Workshop – Bringing discovery to you!​​​​​​​

Discover through hands-on activities how Darwin observed that animals are adapted to their environment. See how this can lead to evolution.

Action for Sustainability

Conduct a Sustainability survey, explore renewable energy technology through hands-on experiments and then either debate the impact of these technologies on the landscape or make some recycled paper. Finish with a pledge to make your own lifestyle more sustainable.

Rocks and Soils

Take a walk visiting different rocks and, using hands-on activities, learn about Shropshire's geological history by creating volcanoes and landslides and piece together a puzzle of an ancient continent. Also get your hands dirty doing a soil investigation.

From Seed to Plant

Take a flowering plant through its life cycle while having fun solving problems on such subjects as requirements for growth, the functions of different parts of the plant and seed dispersal.

Dinner Time

Discover a new underwater world while pond dipping and/or use forensic evidence to find out what owls eat! Whether prey, predator or producer, our food chain games provide fun for all participants.

Food Chains

An Outreach Workshop – Bringing discovery to you!​​​​​​​

Using owl pellets, learn about and construct food chains for the owl.
Examine different types of teeth and work out what kind of diets there are adapted for.

Pond vs Meadow

Compare and contrast invertebrates found in pond and meadow habitats, while investigating either classification,  adaptation or life cycles.

Maximum group size: 64
Cost: £138 + vat per group of up to 35, £276 + vat per group of 36-64

Life Cycles and Habitats

Choose two of three activities: pond dipping to draw the life cycle of different inhabitants, looking for plants that reproduce sexually and asexually,or using four figure grid references to go to 5 locations in the meadows and decide which would be the best location for 5 different creatures, writing or sketching to explain why.

25 children or fewer – £105 + VAT
26 to 35 children (or one class, whichever number is larger) – £138 + VAT
36 to 50 children – £210 + VAT
51 to 70 children – £276 + VAT
