Maintaining our Withies
Our Onny Meadow Group have been busy maintaining this beautiful quiet corner.
One of our regular winter tasks is pollarding the trees in the withy bed. This is a tranquil corner of the
meadows so we try to keep it nicely maintained and pollarding the trees keeps them healthy and generates
hundreds of willow rods which have a variety of uses.
Local people have been using them to make hurdles or weave them into sculptures. We used them to refence
our butterfly garden earlier in the year.
On Sunday 13th April, a group of local weavers will be demonstrating how to create hurdles at the Centre and all visitors are welcome to come and see them at work.
If you would like to take any willow for your own project, please give us a call and we would be glad for
you to have some in exchange for a suitable donation. Otherwise, come and spend some time relaxing
in this beautiful quiet corner.
